You've got the backpack and lunch box. But is your family's health coverage ready? A doctor may have left the network, a prescription may cost more, or a child may not have carried over after a plan change. Check these five things before school begins:

Confirm that every family member is actively covered. |

Make sure your doctors, urgent care center and preferred hospital are still in-network. |

Check that regular prescriptions are still covered and your pharmacy remains preferred. |

Download current medical, dental and vision ID cards. |

Consider whether an accident or hospital indemnity plan could help with expenses your regular health plan may not fully cover. |

“My daughter turned 18 in June. Is she still covered under my health plan?”
Turning 18 does not end her eligibility. If your plan offers dependent coverage, federal law generally allows children to remain covered until age 26, whether they are in school, married, living at home or financially independent.
She must still be enrolled on your specific policy. If you recently changed plans or employers, confirm that she was carried over correctly.

Open your health plan's app or member portal and download the current medical, dental and vision cards for each family member.
Save them in a phone folder called "Insurance Cards," and send copies to older children. You'll have them ready when the school nurse or urgent care asks.
